Sending cryptocurrency through radio waves is now possible with off-grid solar-powered system

Many believe that cryptocurrency offers financial independence from banks and governments. However, one of the major issues is the dependence of blockchain on the power grid. Since blockchain cannot operate outside government infrastructure, how can it offer independence from the government? Moreover, how can one expect that crypto will replace cash if it cannot be used when the lights go out? To counter these issues, developers have come up with a solar-powered blockchain that can operate completely off-grid. The developers of Burst claim that they have already completed a solar-powered cryptocurrency transaction by using short burst radio waves, CCN reported. There are a number of other projects that have incorporated radio waves into their transaction process, but Burst is potentially the first that has fully performed an off-grid transaction. This is a great use case for cryptocurrency in areas with poor infrastructure or areas hit by natural disasters. Developer Daniel Jones tweeted, "It is with great honor I present to you the first $burst radio transaction. Solar powered, mesh net, and on chain." The solar-powered system was reportedly designed as a part of the Call For Code challenge. This challenge brings developers together to design technology that can be use for good, especially in humanitarian relief . Describing the project, Jones told CCN, “Radio is used in natural disasters and is an infrastructure we often overlook. Burst is mined with hard drives, it requires far less power. And as far as developing the radio piece, it’s done. It’s not hard to send a packet over radio, just got to use right tools and understand the myriad of regulations.” Burst will be helpful to people suffering from any disaster, natural or man-made, as they would be able to preserve value and can still carry out trading, even when banks and other on-grid blockchains are being blockaded or destroyed. Apart from this, the project also allows users to confirm whether they are alive and also send messages without disclosing their location. The purpose of the first transaction was explained by Jones, calling it a demonstration to show “Proof of Life." He said, “[The] transaction…was a multi factor verification of Proof of Life….  [D]uring a disaster…there could be cases where you may need to verify [that] someone is who they claim to be but without being able to see them ….
