Ethereum Foundation awards nearly $3 million in grants to blockchain startups and developers

The Ethereum Foundation awarded close to $3 million in grants to a number of blockchain startups and developers as part of its ongoing grant program. The Foundation's grants team released its fourth wave of grants, as shared on the network's blog on Monday. The blog post listed out 20 individuals and groups that received was awarded $2.9 million for their work on client diversity, scalability, usability, security and for building tools. The largest grants went to Prysmatic Labs and Status, with each receiving $500,000 to build Ethereum 2.0 clients. "While the program continues to grow, we will increasingly continue to involve more community members in the decision making process," the Ethereum team said in the blog post. Spankchain, Kyokan and Connext together received $420,000 for their to work on a software developer's kit (SDK) for a non-custodial payment channel hub. "The grant brings us closer to other client teams and ensures collaboration with brilliant minds working on similar problems. The challenges facing Ethereum are not project or team specific, they face us all," Status COO Nabil Naghdy told Coin Desk. The Ethereum team also detailed a wish list of solutions to fix issues with the network. The list included setting up community groups and conferences for underrepresented communities and also enabling the translation of research, documentation, and specs into other languages. Apart from these, the team detailed solutions related to scalability, privacy, usability and security that were currently being worked on or have just been added to the list. The team also announced that it has opened applications for its fifth wave of grants.
